Over Committed

Over committed

Many students see a club advertised and are immediately compelled join. The problem with this is that people don't know how to say no and before you realize, you have joined 10 clubs, are in 4 out-of-school activities, and have homework in every subject!

Ways to avoid overcommitment...
  • Limit yourself to a certain number of clubs.
  • Don't take a leadership role in every club; this takes that position away from someone who would dedicate all of their time to that club.
  • Learn how to say "no."
  • Set priorities for yourself. Figure out which clubs you can live without.

  1. This is a major problem for me. I am always doing something. I go from swim practice, to soccer practice, to school functions, and finally home to do all my homework. I take honors classes, which overloads me with homework.Your advice can help me to limit my activites and have more time to relax.

  2. Right now, I feel overworked just having a part time job, boyfriend, and school! I find myself having trouble making time to hang out with friends, take part in my hobbies, see my boyfriend, work and do homework. Maybe I just can't handle very much, but this may just be a stressful time in a person's life.

  3. This is a problem for me too. I am in 6 clubs, I play basketball, and I am thinking about getting a job in Febuary. Since I am in so many things I sometimes have to miss out on other activities I'm in because most of them are right after school.

  4. I personally do not have this problem, but I have many friends that do. They are always stressed out and always tired. This truly is a problem among highschoolers!
